TONGA - Kingdom of Tonga
Tonga, officially the Kingdom of Tonga, is a Polynesian sovereign state and archipelago comprising 177 islands stretching over about 800 kilometres (500 mi) in a north-south line. Only 36 islands are inhabited, while the remainder are largely untouched. This South Pacific paradise is located right on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Its many volcanic islands run parallel to the Tonga trench wich, at a depth of around 11,000 m, is one of die deepest places in the world. Kingdom of Tonga has never lost its sovereignty to a foreign power and is still a monarchy. Nukuʻalofa is the capital city located on the largest island, Tongatapu.
