With a population of 43,000, Savai'i is 4th largest Polynesian island after Tahiti and the 2 islands of New Zealand. Savaiʻi is the largest and highest (Mount Silisili at 1,858 m) island in Samoa and contains the Central Savai'i Rainforest that forms the largest continuous patch of rainforest in Polynesia. It is dotted with more than 100 volcanic craters and contains most of Samoa's native species of flora and fauna, making it globally significant in world conservation areas.
