Kamchatka - Bears Safari (Russia)
The Kamchatka brown bear is a subspecies of brown bear with a body length of 2.4 metres, to 3 metres tall on hind legs and a weight up to 650 kg (1433 lbs). In the summer period, bears feed on berries and salmons.
The annual salmon migration is a major event for brown bear because salmons are an important food source they will need during the months of winter in its den. It is crucial that brown bears must eat enough to store huge amounts of fat needed to sustain it. This migration period (end july to early september) is highly recommended for bear watching because bears focus on the shores of lakes and rivers. Bears might be dangerous and protection by an armed guide is necessary for your safety.
