FRENCH POLYNESIA
Austral Archipelago -
Rimatera island
Rimatara is a raised atoll of almost circular shape, arising from a volcanic plateau. Its lagoon largely filled in its center by the island is almost non-existent, the reef being very close to the coast. The crown reef is cut in a single pass. The island thus formed, with an area of 8.6 km2, is relatively low, Mount Uhau culminating at only 83 meters. It is located 640 km southeast of Tahiti.
