Sint Eustatius (Netherlands)

Sint Eustatius, also known to the locals as Statia, is a special municipality of the Netherlands located in the Antilles.  The island was sighted in 1493 by Christopher Columbus.  From the first settlement, in the 17th century until the early 19th century, St. Eustatius changed hands twenty two times. Unaffected by regional tourism trends and fads St Eustatius is not your average Caribbean island, so just close your eyes and imagine the Caribbean about 25 or 30 years ago.
