NEW ZEALAND - South Island

West Coast - Glaciers - Greymouth - Punakaiki

The Great Coast Road is stretching from Greymouth and Westport. This area is an untamed natural wilderness of rivers and rainforests, glaciers and geological treasures. The West Coast is New Zealand’s only source of the famous greenstone (pounamu) with the boulders found in the West Coast rivers. Greymouth is a town with a history of jade hunting, gold mining and dramatic river floods.
Punakaiki is a small village between Westport and Greymouth which lies on the edge of the Paparoa National Park. The "Pancake Rocks and Blow Holes" are a very popular tourist destination at Dolomite Point south of the main village.
