Few miles southwest of Atuona is Taaoa Valley with the Upeke archeological ruins. A large tohua particularly imposing, along fifty meters and surrounded by paepae. This site was identified by Ralph Linton in 1925 and restored in 1991. This site has since become a tourist mecca, one of the best known of the Marquesas.
