AUSTRALIA - TASMANIA
Wildlife - Tasmanian Devils
The Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial and was once native to mainland Australia and is now found in the wild only on the island state of Tasmania. The size of a small dog, the Tasmanian devil is the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world and is related to quolls. It is characterised by its stocky and muscular build, black fur, extremely loud and disturbing screech, keen sense of smell, and ferocity when feeding. The tasmanian devil has recently been classified as ‘endangered’ following a decline of up to 85% across its natural range due to a contagious facial cancer known as Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). Devils@Cradle is a conservation center for endangered devils and quolls supported by the Tasmanian government. They are illness free and kept as insurance populations until a solution is found to heel the wild population. Devils@Cradle allows you to see the devils in large enclosures and it's an opportunity as it is not easy to find them in the wild.

more easy to find it on road signs than in real life
the elusive platypus, after hours waiting, feeding in a lake and coming few secondes to breeze at the surface. For sure, not our best photo but we can see the "beak" as the platypus is also called the duck-billed platypus. It is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania.
