Lemaire Channel

Lemaire Channel provides safe passage along part of the Anartica Peninsula coast, which has a pedigree of discovery. Although the Channel was first spotted by a German expedition in the 1870s, it was not until 1898 that a Belgian expedition first traversed the strait. The expedition's leader named the channel after Charles Lemaire, a belgian explorer.
